We know that leisure travel has been getting a lot of flack lately – and for good reason! But rest assured, there are many ways in which you can better balance a great trip with being kinder to the planet and to the people in the places you visit.

And Island Effect is here to help you do just that – make your visit to Saint Lucia and the Caribbean great for you and for the communities you visit! Whether you are already a sustainable, ethical, positive impact travel junkie or you’re just beginning to explorecultural tourism or island adventures that give back – we want to help you figure out where to go, what to do, how to do it better!

Our Philosophy

How It Happened – Sustainable Travel & Cultural Tourism

In late 2017, an idea began to take shape…to start writing about the many small and undiscovered places and memorable experiences I thought people would like to see when they visit Saint Lucia. Ones that aren’t on the mainstream tourism map. I wanted to support people and places genuinely trying to create sustainable tourism and community livelihoods…take Lucians and visitors to all these great places!

Originally this was just a personal project: A way to justify me spending time exploring more of my island home while ‘sharing the love’. But I soon realised that people wanted to know so much about what it’s like to really visit Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean islands and experience local life. So, Island Effect became a ‘real website’ sharing all kinds of sustainable travel and cultural tourism info… the real Saint Lucia. And now, in the coming months, we’ll be expanding our coverage to more of the beautiful islands of the Caribbean…to say we’re excited is putting it mildly!

I also write a lot of ‘non-commercial’ posts about things that you can do for free, like self-guided walks, driving tours, recipes for Caribbean and island cuisine, nature – flora and fauna of Saint Lucia and the Caribbean . And we write about local non-profit organizations, our culture, history, places, festivals, bars and best liming spots (wha? you don’t know what “liming” is!
