How It Happened – Sustainable Travel & Cultural Tourism
Hi folks, I’m Finola Jennings Clark, owner and Chief of Travel Inspiration here at Island Effect… here’s the story about why I decided to create a sustainable travel and cultural tourism website for Saint Lucia and now, the Eastern Caribbean…
In late 2017, an idea began to take shape…to start writing about the many small and undiscovered places and memorable experiences I thought people would like to see when they visit Saint Lucia. Ones that aren’t on the mainstream tourism map. I wanted to support people and places genuinely trying to create sustainable tourism and community livelihoods…take Lucians and visitors to all these great places!
Originally this was just a personal project: A way to justify me spending time exploring more of my island home while ‘sharing the love’. But I soon realised that people wanted to know so much about what it’s like to really visit Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean islands and experience local life. So, Island Effect became a ‘real website’ sharing all kinds of sustainable travel and cultural tourism info… the real Saint Lucia. And now, in the coming months, we’ll be expanding our coverage to more of the beautiful islands of the Caribbean…to say we’re excited is putting it mildly!
Plain ‘n’ Simple – What You Get – Sponsored post Disclosure:
You’ll get honest content that gives an accurate picture of what’s on offer and how to access it. We do our best to inspire you to get out of your hotel or villa, or to stay somewhere truly local and enjoy what we locals love about our island.
Full disclosure- many of the features on commercial businesses on Island Effect are paid for, they’re sponsored posts. But, our featured businesses know I’ll make sure I inspire without overselling: Giving straight-up information is what we do. I believe you, the traveller, will enjoy the Caribbean islands the most when you have a good honest idea what’s on the table! And of course I’ll always tell you when a post is sponsored. If it doesn’t say it is, it’s just me and the team out enjoying the island vibes! See our official Influencer Disclosure Policy page here
I also write a lot of ‘non-commercial’ posts about things that you can do for free, like self-guided walks, driving tours, recipes for Caribbean and island cuisine, nature – flora and fauna of Saint Lucia and the Caribbean . And we write about local non-profit organizations, our culture, history, places, festivals, bars and best liming spots (wha? you don’t know what “liming” is! Ok, don’t panic – we’ll be having local lingo and Kweyol language pages too. Visit Saint Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean with us and let us help you get the richest experience possible!
Annou alé! Lets go visit Saint Lucia & the Eastern Caribbean!
I hope that you’ll enjoy being on this journey with me and my love for my adopted home will inspire you to get out and really visit Saint Lucia and the other beautiful islands! Once again, let me know if there’s anything special you’re looking for and I promise I’ll try to help you find it…drop me a line here…
So…what you waiting for? Annou alé! (Let’s go!) Vini a Sènt Lisi! (come visit Saint Lucia) and the Caribbean!
We’ve found that when people visit the islands they often want to create a real connection with the island – meet locals, support a non-profit or a charity, volunteer. And we’re thrilled that more and more travellers want to support sustainable travel and cultural tourism – Wi, sa sé tèlman bon! (Yes, that’s SO good!) And we know everyone loves something free to do, and I love being able to share insights, ideas and guides on all the great free activities you can take advantage of when you visit Saint Lucia or another island! This is the kind of content I want to be able to bring you in boat-loads! Not just paid sponsored posts, but lots of other content – and for our local featured businesses, yes, we want to keep the costs nice ‘n’ low!
If you think this is a good idea, then I appreciate any contribution you’d like to give to help me ensure quality, free content and low-cost promotion keeps on flowing.
